St. Andrew's School Gym, June 22, 2003 --
It was a game where Black Superman was just Black Clark Kent in
offense. Nevertheless, the Jakolites of Batch 91 survived defensive
miscues in the fourth quarter to carve out a 75-67 win over Batch 90.
With Mike “Black Superman” Mendoza having an off –night in offense, the
team banked on Vince “Nowitzki” Tabing’s offense. Tabing was hitting
shots from all over.
"Kahit malas sa opensa si Mike, basta may ready mag-step-up kung
kailangan at yung teamwork ng team nandun parati, mananalo pa rin
kami. " said crowd-favorite Gado “Fresh Prince” Salavado.
“Buti na lang nag-step-up ang mga teammates ko para punan yung
share ko sa offense...lalo na si Tabing.” echoed Mendoza.
The Jakolites used their frontline might to the hilt. Jason
“Plastikman”
Minoza, Vince “Nowitzki” Tabing and Black Superman got the precious
rebounds and blocked the shots of Batch 90 inside the paint.
The Jakolites thus officially entered the semifinals. It is very much
possible that they will occupy the no.1 spot when the semi-final starts
on
July 13.
The first half saw excellent plays from Jakolite guards Roel “Parating
Kargado” Rianzares, Vince “The Rifleman” Samoy, Don Sta. Agueda,
Francis “Star” Estrella and Leo Oaper.
Batch 90 were able to climb out of several 8 and 10 point lead
throughout
the game and actually lead by as much as 5 points on several
occasions.
In the middle of the fourth and deciding quarter, the Jakolites slept
on
defense, which enabled Batch 90, to put on a string of points to lead
by 3
points.
But this proved to be the last card for Batch 90. The Jakolites
regrouped
and tightened on defense to overturn the lead. The last few minutes saw
the Jakolites unleashing the outside snipping of The Rifleman, the
versatility of Nowitzki and the defense and rebounding power of
Plastikman and Black Superman.
Even though the Fresh Prince was still scorless for the fourth straight
game, he still contributed three rebounds to the team. Those three
rebounds were all taken ala-Ben Wallace.
The Jakolites are now 5-0 in the standings and will battle the
dangerous
Batch 87 on June 29, Sunday, 3:30PM at the SAS.
